My beadwork label, House of Mobu was launched in December 2002. When I first started out, I had no idea the impact it would have on my community and the importance
of the beadwork in my spiritual growth.
I started beading after my midyear marketing management exams, 2002.

I dressed people for events such as the South African Music Awards. I also showcased my work at South African fashion week. Aside from all the glamour, that my ‘fashion side’ exposed me to, I also learnt the patience that comes with beadwork.
I learnt how to be still and pay attention to detail, which has helped me out in many ways, in other areas of my life. The harshness of the industry and lack of respect for intellectual property has led me to take a ‘break,’ while I calculate my next move.

The purpose of beading was to kill time while I waited for my friends to complete their exams, it seems, however, that it took a life of its own, and groomed me into
a young business woman.
The name Mobu means ‘soil’ in Sesotho, I named my range that because for me, it was place where I could grow and nurture my talents.
I named my range after soil as it is one of the natural elements. I envisioned it to be quite a Godly and natural place for me. My signature beaded tops became an instant hit for matric dances, special events and weddings. I attracted customers across the board and world, including artists such as Busi Mhlongo, India Arie and Thandiswa.
